Cancer is the #1 killer of dogs. The bad, corn packed food many poison them with and the vaccinations we overdose them with are major players in this dismal outcome.
Last year I started giving my puppy owner's a choice of how they wanted their puppy vaccinated, as I now encourage titering and delayed vaccination. Vaccinating the mother properly provides enough immunity to pass onto the puppies well past the 8th week, even. When Maverick was titered at week 10 he was found to be at the perfect age for vaccination as his maternal antibodies were finally waning. The problem is that every puppy is different and immunity lasts longer in some than others. However, all the science agrees that vaccinating at week 16 assures 100% immunity production. Not everybody is comfortable waiting this long, and even some puppy schools require early vaccination, but you shouldn't be hauling a puppy to high risk places before 16 weeks, even if you choose to vaccinate with traditional techniques.
Titer first, vaccinate after. You may only have to ever give your puppy ONE dose of vaccine, and no booster for 5-7 years...or ever.
Breeders who are still trying to tell you that it's okay to give puppies multiple shots starting at ages where maternal antibodies are still strong, are just plain ignorant. They do NOT work, or offer any protection.
The key is trying to find a vet intelligent enough to respect modern research and science. Holistic approaches really do work, and as a breeder and multiple dog owner I've gone from being trapped in the traditional vet medicine mindset, to embracing the holistic approaches more and more.
