This is probably the last post I'll write of 2013 as I am just too busy to sit still for long. Not sure where the year went, but I'm definitely looking forward to an exciting 2014. I certainly have a LOT of things to do with my dogs next year and the show/obedience chaos starts up again in February/March.
Spanky's tumor pathology came back as the worst case scenario: highly aggressive squamous cell carcinoma. Lung cancers are notoriously hard to treat as cells have a million places to hide, but she will be starting a two layer hail mary chemo treatment to theoretically keep it at bay for as long as we can. She is definitely feeling a lot better after having that Mr Potato Head "creature" removed from her lung. The brightness of her eyes and returning energy level make sawing her in half worth it.
My 2014 breeding plans are now in motion and I am starting to send out deposit agreement "invitations" for my Spring litter. Singer will be bred to Macks, a Toby X Navy son (bred by me) when she comes into heat. Macks is a gorgeous, young Field Trial Winner, OFA Excellent/ACVO normal - black and white, very tall and leggy. The Toby kids tend to be high octane field warriors (with supernatural stamina), but Singer's bloodline is very biddable and extremely smart.
I will only be taking 10 deposits for the entire year. If you are interested and have never purchased a puppy from me before, I require a puppy application to be filled out - and a deposit agreement - and finally a purchase agreement. Please do NOT waste my time if you do not understand why this process is important to promoting and maintaining quality dogs!
Recently I had a local couple go bat- shit ballistic because I had the nerve to ask about how their very urban uptown Butte home was fenced. Hmm. Dear Idiots - maybe it's because I'd rather not hear that one of my puppies got run over by a teenager in a densely packed neighborhood because you are stupid enough to think a 3-4 foot fence will confine a world class athlete?
I loved this video made by the Golden Retriever Parent Club when it was posted in the AKC Breeder of Merit newsletter. If you are considering buying a puppy from a self declared "reputable" redneck who doesn't compete with his dogs, whelps his cheapo puppies on bare rubber mats, breeds his bitches 8 times in their life starting at a very young age, and has no scruples about breeding them two times in one year, then this kind of education resource probably won't matter. If it does, then you might be the kind of buyer I am looking for.
